Narrative
Polyethylene and polystyrene are used to make many familiar objects. When polystyrene from a plastic medicine cup is burned, it gives off a smoky flame characteristic of aromatic compounds. Polyethylene from a milk bottle burns with a non-smoky flame.

Discussion
