Sound Track of thudding and ringing.The high temperature austenite phase rings when dropped because of the high degree of symmetry throughout the solid. A sound wave can propagate well through the ordered structure.The low temperature martensite phase does not ring but gives a thudding sound when dropped. The different orientations (variants) give boundaries that muffle sound.
