Memory metal can also be used as a dynamic material in sculptures.In this sculpture by Olivier Deschamps, entitled "Espoir-Desespoir" (Hope-Despair), a mother is holding her child.When cold, with the memory metal in the martensite phase, the mother bends forward in despair.Upon heating into the austenite phase, the memory metal has been "trained" so that the mother raises the baby to the heavens in hope of better things to come.
