Holes in Cubic Arrays

Cubic holes are not found in close packed arrays of anions. They occur in simple cubic arrays.

A cubic hole is located at the center of a cube formed by four ions in one layer and four ions in an adjacent layer of a simple cubic array of anions.

Use the links on the right to display an example of a hole in a cubic array.
