Drawing CCP Structures

Sometimes circles are used to represent cubic closest packed structures.

We use bold circles (Drawing 1) to represent the atoms in the first layer of a CCP structure. Narrow circles (Drawing 2) represent the second layer. Dotted lines (Drawing 3) represent the third layer.

Use the links to explore how the circles in the drawing relate to the position of the atoms.
