The Unit Cell and Its Dimensions

When the HCP unit cell is viewed from the side, atoms from the three close-packed planes in the cell are clearly visible.

Lattice points are located at the centers of the atoms in planes labeled "A".

Unlike a cubic unit cell, all three edges of a hexagonal unit cell are not of equal length and one of the angles is 120 degrees.
