Unit Cell of a 2-D Metal |
Any set of two vectors that connect identical points in the plane can be used to define a unit cell. However it is usually most convenient to use a pair of vectors with a right angle between them. This forms an orthogonal unit cell, a cell with 90 degree angles. Most of the unit cells we deal with will be either squares or cubes. Click the links on the right to show the space lattice and an orthogonal unit cell. |
