Delivering the Titrant

Titrant is delivered by opening the stopcock. The rate of addition is dependent on the type of experiment that is being performed. Some experiments require continuous flow from the buret. However, the titrant should be added dropwise during a titration experiment when an end-point is to be observed visually. Therefore, you should practice controlling the rate of addition before beginning an experiment.

To practice controlling the flow rate: Fill a buret with water. Practice opening and closing the stopcock. Make sure you know how to get the buret to slowly deliver the water dropwise.
