The glass electrode must be soaked in water for several hours before use. When the glass electrode is dehydrated (dried out), it will not function properly. If the electrode has been used to measure solutions that contain high concentrations of sodium ions, it may be necessary to soak the electrode in a weak acid buffer for a short period of time before use.
The electrode should be rinsed with distilled water before and after each measurement. Rinse solutions should discarded.
