The Fluorite Unit Cell

The unit cell of CaF2 (fluorite) is a face centered cubic. Lattice points are located at the corners of the unit cell and in the centers of the faces.

Calcium ions are located on the lattice points.

Fluoride ions are located in all eight of the tetrahedral holes formed by the calcium ions.
