The Number of Atoms in the Cell |
A point at one corner of a unit cell is shared among eight unit cells in the lattice. One-eighth of a corner lattice point or one-eighth of a corner atom is located in each unit. An atom on the face of the unit cell is shared with one other cell. One-half of a lattice point or an atom on a face is located in each unit cell. Click the links on the right to demonstrate the topics listed above.

6
faces x 1/2 an atom at each face + 8 corners x 1/8 an atom at each corner
= 4 atoms per cell
