Dear Colleagues and Readers,
As we step into 2025, I find myself updating my professional tagline to include "former" ChemEd X high school editor. This change comes with mixed emotions, as it was not an easy decision to step away from a role that has been such a significant and rewarding part of my career.
Serving as the high school editor for ChemEd X has been an extraordinary experience. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside a fantastic team of loyal and dedicated educators, as well as an editor-in-chief who has consistently demonstrated encouragement, understanding, and flexibility. This role has been uniquely enriching, providing opportunities and experiences that most teachers rarely encounter.
One of the greatest joys of this position has been the chance to connect with educators from across the country and around the world. Through these connections, I’ve forged lasting friendships and gained a deeper appreciation for the incredible dedication and creativity within our community. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to collaborate with so many inspiring individuals.
As I transition out of this role, I do so with immense gratitude and confidence in the future of ChemEd X. I am thrilled to pass the torch to Erica Posthuma, whose talent and vision will undoubtedly propel ChemEd X forward. She is one of the first high school teachers that I invited to join our team, so she has a long-standing relationship with the community. I have full faith in her leadership and am excited to see how ChemEd X continues to grow and evolve under her guidance.
This past fall, I returned to the classroom full-time and have been enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with students and the daily rhythm of teaching. I have already benefitted from and incorporated many of the ideas and insights I gained through this community into my teaching practice.
To my colleagues, the many authors I have worked with and our readers, thank you for your support, encouragement, and passion for chemistry education. This community has enriched my life in countless ways, and I will always cherish the memories and friendships formed during my time as editor.
Wishing you all continued success and inspiration in the year ahead.
Warm regards,
Deanna Cullen
