AP Chemistry Exam

The August AP Teach session focused on beginning a new school year with a review of student performance on the 2025 AP Chemistry exam. Jennifer Cambre shared ideas for how to interpret and analyze the data from the Instructional Planning Reports.

The July 2025 APTeach session focused on familiarizing AP Chemistry teachers with the Desmos graphing calculator, which is embedded in Bluebook for student use during the AP Chemistry exam, as well as other standardized tests.

I have been an AP Chemistry Reader since 2011, and I am very grateful for this experience.

The AP Chemistry exam is given at the beginnig of May and its never too early to start reviewing!  In this post, I’ve collected a variety of resources to support your review time, divided into two sections: ideas for structuring your review and pointers from AP readers.

In June AP Chemistry readers either traveled to Salt Lake City or worked online from home to read and score student responses from the 2022 exam. I attended the in-person Reading and served as a table leader for a group of at-home readers. I enjoyed the opportunity to do the following.  

The 2020 AP Exams were definitely challenging between switching to remote instruction, removing units of instruction, implementing an online exam, and reformatting the exam, among other issues. All these changes led to anxious students and teachers. One of the anxieties that lingered past the exam was how it would be read and scored.

The AP Chemistry Exam is getting closer. What will you provide your students to review for the big day?

Each year around this time, the same questions start emerging on listservs and discussion boards about the structure and content of the AP Chemistry Exam. Teachers start to worry if they have covered all of the content and if their students are prepared enough for the daunting exam.
