This year so many in-person events at school have not been able to happen due to COVID restrictions. One activity that my science honor society students have enjoyed greatly is the Skype with a Scientist Live sessions. Students register in advance and then have the opportunity to be face to face with a scientist. Previous sessions can be watched on their Youtube channel here.
Some events that my students found interesting were:
- Polymer Recycling with Leslie Hamachi who researches nanocrystal synthesis and polymer recycling
- Antibiotic Resistance with Michael Baym is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard University
- Tiny Plastic, Huge problem: How corals are affected by microplastic pollution
- Why people get depressed with Mary McMillan explaining how variation within our DNA may make certain people more susceptible to depression.
The calendar of upcoming events can be found here.
