Contents of the CsCl Unit Cell | |
The cesium ion located at the center of this unit cell is completely within the cell. Chloride ions at the corners are each shared by a total of eight unit cells. Thus there would be one-eighth of a chloride at each corner in this cell.
The cesium ion at the center and the eight partial chloride atoms at eight corners gives a total of one Cs+ ion and one Cl- ion in the CsCl unit cell. Click the link on the right to view the contents of a CsCl unit cell.

![]() One
Cs+ ion is located completely within the unit cell.
One-eighth
of a Cl- ion is located inside the unit cell at each corner.
1
Cs+ ion inside the cell + 1/8 of a Cl- ion at each corner x 8 corners
= 1 CsCl formula unit per cell
