This is a simulation of how the reaction of iodine with α-pinene was used as a form of antisepsis.
Mixing solid iodine and cyclohexene shows little reaction but mixing iodine and α-pinene produces a very vigorous exothermic reaction and sublimation of solid iodine to dense iodine vapor.
